Product Overview

Boston College, founded by Jesuits in 1863 to help educate children of immigrants, has grown into a major academic institution of national and international standing. Ever to Excel describes this transformation from a small commuter undergraduate college to a comprehensive modern American university. As it evolved, Boston College has sought to link the liberal arts, character formation, and intellectual excellence within the Jesuit, Catholic religious and intellectual tradition. Not merely an account of institutional development, Ever to Excel focuses on the students, faculty, staff, and alumni who helped shape Boston College and related changes in curriculum and campus life.

James M. O’Toole is University Historian and Clough Millennium Professor of History Emeritus at Boston College. He is the author, among other works, of The Faithful: A History of Catholics in America.

    Ever To Excel

Thorough and detailed history of Boston College. Its more than just about the people involved, it provides a good foundation of the existing political setting and environment, local; national; religious; the evolution of the school takes place. Detailed support of activities gives the reader a real sense of changes as they happen. Actually I learned some facts about people and places that I wasn't expecting.
