The Daily Examen of St. Ignatius, derived from The Spiritual Exercises, is a 10 to 20 minute prayer that should be undertaken at least once a day. The Examen is designed for restful contemplation, and this version is adapted to the demands of contemporary life. Prayer for Finding God in All Things includes a Foreword by Avery Cardinal Dulles, diverse quotations from the Scriptures as well as distinguished spiritual writers, and a selection of possible closing prayers. Dulles writes, "[T]his booklet can be a godsend. Following the true spirit of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Sister Joan L. Roccasalvo, C.S.J. shows how the daily examen, moving beyond conventional moralism, can contribute to a loving relationship with God and blend into a prayer of trustful gratitude."

Critical in My Quarantine

I was feeling so distracted and unable to focus or retain what I tried to read. Now having committed to these prayers nightly, my prayer life is renewed and I feel connected to God in ways I longed for.

Sr. Joan Roccasalvo's new edition of Prayer for Finding God in All Things is magnificent. I recently re-read the original and the new edition. Although I will cherish the original edition, the new edition features easier-to-read font and highlights various key scripture passages. Sr. Joan's suggestions about daily prayer are on point. She provides simple and clear insight as to where, when, and how to pray. The revised edition also contains an updated "self" section, which helps the reader to better engage in prayer.
We extend our thanks to Sr. Joan for this excellent work, which we will pray with time and again.
"The Quintessential Ignatian Prayer"

The most important thing about this edition is its power to transform the daily lives of those who are committed to praying it. I am told that for every situation and event, there is a discerning response embedded in the texts. Passages seem to jump off the page to respond to every occasion. They tell me that doing the examen keeps them young, fresh, and on their toes. They are able to discern their lives in light of their faith. They find that their experience is the raw material for finding God in all things and for finding all things in God. Living in God's presence brings them to wise every day decisions. I don’t claim any credit for all the good it’s doing. I just marvel at the grace it has been for so many.

Her guide to the Examen has greatly helped me. The background that she brings to the Examen proper has enriched me. I say no more; I am a follower of Ignatius' way for only 1-1/2 years, and thus a neophyte.
We are buying copies to give to our friends.

I was introduced to this book in the last 2 years, and it has become an important part of my daily prayer. I find myself amazed at how different chapters and quotations speak to me at different times. As a mother of a young son, I am very busy, but this book is a perfect way to end my day in prayer. I treasure the writing and wholeheartedly recommend it to others.
